Vanitas Tip Box

Vanitas (Latin meaning 'vanity') is a form of art that uses symbolism to illustrate the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the finality of death. The paintings included still life images of ephemera. The genre began in the 16th century and continued into the 17th century. Vanitas art is a form of allegorical art that represents a higher ideal.

We presented symbolic elements by creating a composition in the tip box we designed, influenced by this art movement. While roses are the symbol of beauty, youth and pleasure, there is a skull on the other side. It shows the fragility of life and the inevitability of mortality. The hourglass also expresses the transience and limitation of time. The reflecting sphere is the symbol of the world and worldly power. We ended these symbols in a certain composition with the phrase Memento Mori “remember that you are mortal”
You can store your calligraphy and fountain pen nibs. You can use it as a gift box.

• You can open and lock the box by turning the heart part on the lid to the right.
• The box floor is covered with velvet fabric.
• It has a varnish coating to prevent corrosion, giving it an antique, worn-out look.
